A highly experienced consultant paediatrician with an expansive range of medical qualifications has joined the team at Furness General Hospital.
UHMBT has strengthened its Women and Children’s Services clinical division with the appointment of Dr Ashutosh Kale.
Formerly a paediatric registrar at Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Scunthorpe General Hospital, Dr Kale’s area of special interest is Paediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology. He brings extensive experience to the Trust in General Paediatrics, Neonatology and Child Protection.
Dr Kale, said: “I am looking forward to providing world class care to children and young people in South Cumbria, using all the skills I have acquired over the years.
“As a nature lover, Barrow-in-Furness was the perfect place for me to live and seek to further my medical career, with the beautiful and tranquil Lake District on the doorstep. I love to get out and explore the area on foot or on my bike, provided I can spare some time from entertaining my two young daughters!”
Dr Kale has been working in the field of Paediatrics since 1999. Prior to joining the NHS in 2003, he initially worked for four years in a tertiary paediatric unit in India. He completed his SHO training in London and Registrar training in the South West and at Sheffield deanery.
A former research fellow for Oxford University, he has been actively involved in a wide range of clinical research projects. He has also made numerous teaching presentations at various levels and has many publications in peer reviewed journals.
Dr Kale added: “The teaching element of my profession is also very close to my heart and I have been a tutor in Paediatrics for Sheffield University during my time as a Paediatric Registrar at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.”
Dr Kale’s qualifications include Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Membership of The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH), Diploma in Child Health (DCH) and Doctor of Medicine (MD).
He completed postgraduate courses in Paediatric Diabetology at the University of York while gaining clinical experience in the Department of Paediatric Endocrinology at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
He also holds a Diplomate of National Board (DNB), a title bestowed under the Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, to candidates who successfully complete their postgraduate or post-doctoral medical education.
