Benefits
There are few careers that are as rewarding as one in the NHS, or that give you the opportunity to work with such a variety of people. We actively recruit people of all ages, backgrounds and levels of experience. This helps us understand the different needs of the patients and provide the best possible service. This page provides a summary of benefits that UHMBT can offer.
Annual leave
Depending on whether you are full or part time, staff enjoy 27 days holiday per year, plus the eight general / bank holidays. Holidays rise to 33 days after 10 years NHS service. Annual leave entitlement changes for some medical and dental staff. Take a look at our Annual Leave policy.
Pension
Anyone who starts working for the NHS automatically becomes a member of the NHS Pension Scheme, but membership is voluntary and you can opt not to join and leave the Scheme at any time. You can find further information at http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/Pensions.aspx.
Discounts
As an NHS employee, you have access to a world of possible savings via NHS Discounts. According to NHS Discounts, 800,000 NHS employees now use their site with discounts being offered by many well know retailers such as Littlewoods, Virgin Holidays, SpaFinder and Goldsmiths the jewellers. NHS Discounts is not operated by the NHS. Other discount providers are available such as NHS Members which provides localised discounts and offers for NHS staff and members of Foundation Trusts.
Nursery and childcare
Childcare - Do you pay for nursery fees, playgroups, nannies, childminders, before or after school clubs, or holiday playschemes? If so, as an employer you are able to save money by joining the Trust’s Childcare Voucher Scheme.
Nursery – We have Nursery’s onsite at Furness General Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary, the latest inspection reports can be obtained from Ofsted. Both nurseries accept children from 0 to 5.
Health
Employees of our Trust have access to VieLife, an online resource where you can undertake their “health and well-being” assessment.
We encourage employees to join the cycle to work scheme, where as an employee, you have access to a discounted bicycle and safety equipment as part of the government tax break scheme.
Canteen
All sites operate staff and public restaurants, with a wide variety of food. Daily choices include hot cooked meals, through to baguette bars and pre-packed sandwiches and salads for those on the go.
