Antenatal Classes

Antenatal classes are designed to help you and your chosen birth partner prepare for childbirth and early parenthood.

The classes include information on:

  • Looking after yourself during pregnancy
  • Preparing to meet your baby - what to expect and how to cope
  • Practical advice on caring for and feeding your new baby
  • Breast feeding workshop
  • Advice on early parenting - coping strategies and bonding with your baby

There are a variety of sessions available across the Morecambe Bay area, including individual sessions or weekly courses.

Your midwife will discuss the options with you and advise you on how to book onto the classes you want to participate in. Some of the sessions available include:

Lancaster

Bump, Birth and Beyond

These sessions are held monthly in both Lancaster and Morecambe and comprise of three sessions over three weeks:

  • Session 1: Midwife led and looks at the ‘Physiology of labour and birth’
  • Session 2: Health visitor led and looks at ‘Infant feeding and how the health visitor supports you and your family after baby arrives’
  • Session 3: Children centre staff led and looks at ‘Life with a newborn, keeping you all safe at home’

Antenatal Breastfeeding workshops (Lancaster)

Breastfeeding is a new skill that you and your baby will learn together. Getting to grips with the basics before baby arrives can really help you and your newborn get off to the best start. So whether this is your first baby or you’ve breastfed before and want a bit of a refresher then this friendly and informative session is for you. You are more than welcome to bring your partner or a friend/family member along to see what it’s all about.

  • Mondays, 2 - 4 pm, Lune Park Neighbourhood Centre, Owen Road, Ryelands Park, LA1 2LN

Additional Support

Whether you are pregnant for the first time or you’ve done it all before, it’s really normal for you and your partner to have questions or things you want to discuss in more depth during your pregnancy. Sometimes it can be tricky to know where to get reliable information; we want you to know that we’re here to help guide you through any questions or worries you may have,

At UHMBT we want to provide you with all the support and information required to suit your individual needs. You might want to find out more about things like infant feeding, smoking in pregnancy, safe sleeping, building baby's brain, practical parenting skills or support groups. You can do this by contacting your Midwife or our Health and Wellbeing Maternity Support Assistants who will be happy to meet you for a chat.
