2018-10-11 16_38_19-Photos.pngWill Smart, the national Chief Information Officer for Health and Care in England, visited the Royal Lancaster Infirmary on Wednesday 3rd October 2018 to learn about the local implementation of Lorenzo Electronic Patient Records (EPR) and how it supports safe clinical care.

Colin Brown, Chief Clinical Information Officer at UHMBT, said: “Being visited by a national figure is a great opportunity to shout about the great work we are all doing across the Morecambe Bay area with our Lorenzo EPR. We are all on a connected digital development journey which includes patients, the public, GP's, community care providers, Bay Health and Care Partners as well as Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Systems.

During the visit, Melanie Waszkiel, EPR Clinical Lead at UHMBT, provided an overview of the EPR Optimisation Programme for the last 2 years.

Angela McNally, Ward Manager, hosted a visit of the Acute Frailty Unit where Will was able to talk with UHMBT staff about their experiences of using technology to streamline their day-to-day tasks.

Will also met with Andy Wicks, Chief Information Officer at UHMBT, Marc Hadwin, Head of Digital Services at UHMBT, colleagues from Morecambe Bay CCG including Jerry Hawker, Geoff Jolliffe, John Glover, William Lumb, Tim Reynard and Dr Sakthi Karunanithi, as well as Declan Hadley from Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System.

They discussed how each of the local areas is supporting patients in their care and also connecting patient care pathways in Morecambe Bay, Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Will Smart said: "As always it was inspiring to get a glimpse of the great work that is going on locally.  I was very impressed by the work UHMBT has done with Lorenzo, and very much enjoyed my visit. It’s also good to get a sense of the wider work going on within Bay Health and Care Partners.  You all have much to be proud of."
