On Friday 23 May, we were joined by members of the public, colleagues and key stakeholders to mark 40 years of caring for our community at FGH. Celebrations took place in the Conference Room at FGH, with a special birthday party to honour the anniversary. There was something for everyone to enjoy and look back on over the decades, as well as discuss future plans for the site.
We were delighted to be joined by a number of very special guests on the day including the porter who took the first patient into A&E 40 years ago and one of the first babies to have been born at the hospital, who met the Queen back in 1985, and is now celebrating their 40th birthday too.
Dr Geoff Jolliffe, Barrow GP and The High Sheriff of Cumbria and Judith McEwan, The Mayor of Barrow Town, also attended the special ceremony and helped us mark this important milestone.
Tony Oakman, Interim Chair of UMBHT, said: "40 years is quite the milestone! I want to thank all colleagues, past and present, for their dedication and hard work during this time. It was fantastic to have welcomed so many current and former colleagues, patients, partners and members of the public on the day, who were able to share this special celebration with us."
