  • Royal Lancaster Infirmary

A new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) parking system is scheduled to go live in the patient/visitor car parks at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary on Monday 3 August 2026.

The ANPR system is designed to improve parking on the site by removing paper tickets, improving flow through the car park and helping ensure parking areas are used appropriately.

How the new system works

  • Patients and visitors can enter the visitor car park as normal
  • ANPR Cameras will record your vehicle registration number on entry and exit
  • Before leaving, enter your vehicle registration number at a payment machine
  • Make payment before exiting the car park

Payment machine locations
Payment machines are located within the respective car parks at:

  • Ashton Road
  • Medical Unit 2
  • Ashton Community Centre

Important information

  • Within the visitor car park there will be a one-way flow, and you will now exit at the opposite side of the car park to the entrance
  • Blue Badge holders should scan their Blue Badge at the payment machine before leaving
  • Clear signage is in place across the site
  • Staff and support will be available during the transition period
  • Patients who believe they may be eligible for a parking exemption should speak to a member of staff for further advice

Improving how parking operates on site
We are aware that parking can be challenging at our busy hospital sites, and recognise the importance of ensuring patients, visitors and staff can access the hospital as easily as possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as this new system is introduced.

  1. Find a space and park up
  2. At the end of your stay, enter your vehicle registration into a payment kiosk
  3. Select the relevant image OR press the ‘incorrect/ missing image’ button to manually enter your registration
  4. Select the option ‘Blue Badge Holder’
  5. To scan your Blue Badge use the barcode on the back and hold it in front of the scanner
  6. Wait for the confirmation screen, confirming ‘You do not need to pay for parking’ then return to your vehicle and exit the car park
