Tabetha Darmon announces retirement from the NHS

Posted on: 4 June 2025

Tabetha Darmon, our Chief Nursing Officer, has announced her decision to retire from the NHS after 31 years.

Tabetha joined the Trust in Spring 2023 from Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Under her leadership, our Trust has seen the removal of all Care Quality Commission (CQC) licensing conditions in relation to Stroke and Maternity services, significant improvements in our maternity services which have been recognised by the CQC and national Maternity Safety Support Programme, consistent adherence to safe staffing levels, and improvements in our culture to ensure all colleagues and patients feel physically and psychologically safe in our services. She has also been the Executive lead for our partnership with the University of Cumbria aimed at developing strong research and education opportunities for our nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and healthcare scientists.

Personally, she has been an advocate for all colleagues and patients but especially those from a Black and Minority Ethnic background and those who live with neurodiversity and mental health issues. She has always amplified the voices of our nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and healthcare scientists in all we do and challenged us all to ensure we are truly patient first.

Tabetha is the definition of a kind and compassionate leader and has played a fundamental role in advancing nursing, midwifery, allied health professionals and healthcare scientists as professions which has benefitted our invaluable workforce and the patients we care for.

Tabetha will be leaving the Trust on 22 August 2025 and whilst she is retiring from the NHS, she will be using her extensive skills and experience to support the Government of Jersey as their Executive Director of Nursing from September 2025.

As the Chief Nursing Officer role is mandatory for an NHS Foundation Trust Board, we will soon begin the formal recruitment process. We will update on any interim arrangements required over the coming months.

On behalf of the Trust, I’d like to thank Tabetha for her 31 years’ service to the NHS and wish her and her family all the best for the future.
