A chaplain at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) is set to be part of a BBC Radio 4 Extra programme focusing on The Lord’s Prayer.
Reverend Amy Bland (pictured right), Site Lead Chaplain at Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal, will be one of six contributors to a special week of Daily Services on BBC Radio 4 Extra, airing from Friday 3 October to Friday 10 October.
The series - Exploring The Lord’s Prayer with Voices from the North - brings together church leaders and chaplains from across the north of England and the Isle of Man to reflect on the relevance of The Lord’s Prayer in today’s world.
Amy will lead the service on Thursday 9 October at 9.45am, focusing on the theme: How do we stay on the right path?
Amy said: “I really enjoyed taking part in the week of services. The Lord's Prayer is a prayer shared by Christians around the world and back through the centuries so it felt very special to be able to share how it's impacted me and my faith. It was great to be able to link this prayer to my work and experience of Cumbria.”
The series opens with Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, who has invited a diverse group of voices to lead worship and share reflections. Each service will take a line from The Lord’s Prayer and explore its meaning through the lens of everyday faith, hope and challenge.
The full schedule includes:
- Friday 3 October – Archbishop Stephen Cottrell: Who is God our Father?
- Monday 6 October – The Venerable Miranda Threlfall-Holmes: Where is God’s kingdom now?
- Tuesday 7 October – The Reverend Dave Ho Young: What does “enough” look like?
- Wednesday 8 October – The Reverend Alex Brown: Why forgiveness matters.
- Thursday 9 October – The Reverend Amy Bland: How do we stay on the right path?
- Friday 10 October – Bishop Philip North: Living to glorify God.
The week will culminate on Paulinus Day (10 October) with a special event at Blackburn Cathedral. This event is part of the wider Faith in the North initiative, which encourages prayer and storytelling across the region.
Amy Bland will also be sharing reflections and updates on the UHMBT Chaplaincy Team’s social media channels in the lead-up to the broadcast.
Listeners can tune in live on BBC Radio 4 Extra or catch up via the BBC Sounds platform. The episode will be available under the title: BBC Radio 4 – Daily Service: How do we stay on the right path?
