The Northwest Regional BAME Assembly has granted UHMBT a Bronze Anti-Racism award in recognition of the Trust's continuous efforts to tackle all forms of racism. The Award highlights the Trust's commitment to being an intentionally anti-racist and fully inclusive organisation.
Significant evidence of anti-racist activities across various domains and teams were required for the award application, including the publication of an anti-racist statement, the appointment of an executive Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) sponsor with a commitment to advancing anti-racism within the organisation, tackling racism as a mission critical across the Trust, and proof of planning for continuous anti-racism work.
Paul Jones; Company Secretary, Executive Sponsor for Anti-Racism and Chair of the Anti Racist Influencer Group, UHMBT, said: "We're really pleased to have achieved this award in recognition of the anti-racism initiatives that colleagues across the Trust are working on.
"We're confident that we will achieve our goal of becoming a fully inclusive and equitable environment for patients, colleagues, volunteers and people in our local communities - it underpins our Trust vision of 'creating a great place to be cared for and a great place to work'."
"This achievement sets a strong foundation, and we're dedicated to keeping the momentum we have established in this area already and making further improvements going forward."
The North West Regional BAME Assembly framework encourages NHS organisations to take an actively anti-racist stance, take action to eliminate racism, stand with colleagues when they experience racism, and eradicate the inequalities in access, outcomes and experience of health care that some of our communities face.
The Bronze award is the outcome of collaborative work with various teams across the organisation with the support of the Executive Sponsors, our BAME network, NMAHP and medical colleagues, and the Inclusion and Diversity Steering Group.
