UHMBT has received reaccreditation in the national Veteran Aware scheme for the support offered to the armed forces community both as a healthcare provider and as an employer.
Awarded by the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), the Veteran Aware mark highlights NHS trusts which have made a series of pledges, such as ensuring members of the armed forces community are never disadvantaged when receiving care, training staff on veteran-specific needs, and supporting the armed forces as an employer.
The award recognises NHS Trusts that are exemplars of the best care for former military personnel, and highlights the commitment to improving NHS care and support for veterans, reservists, members of the Armed Forces and their families.
In a confirmation letter, General Lord Richard Dannett, Patron of Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance, and Professor Tim Briggs CBE, Chair of Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance, said: "Following the trust’s initial accreditation awarded in 2021 and review in 2022, it is evident there has been significant work undertaken by those responsible for this agenda in your organisation.
"We thank you for your hard work demonstrating the NHS's commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, with particular mention for Barry Rigg, Annette Shepherd, Ben Hodgson and Lee Jenkinson for the work they have undertaken in driving forward the Veteran Aware programme."
