Urgent Treatment Centre

The Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) based at Westmorland General Hospital provides some urgent care services and overnight GP cover provided by Cumbria Health on Call (CHoC).

The last appointment time is 10pm.

The service offers patient assessment and treatment for a wide range of non-life threatening conditions including strains, sprains, broken bones and minor illnesses. Various assessments such as x-rays are available between 9am - 8pm, with overnight on-call cover. Appointments can be pre-booked via NHS 111.

Patients who visit the UTC will be seen as quickly as possible and in order of their clinical need. Between 11pm - 8am, GP cover is provided by CHoC and may be limited due to on-call duties. Out of hours it is recommended that patients contact NHS 111.

GP's can refer patients to the UTC for assessment and diagnosis to decide the best place for them to receive treatment.

This assessment process avoids unnecessary admissions and ambulance journeys to hospital. Patients who visit the UTC with serious or life threatening conditions may be transferred to A&E at the RLI, FGH or Royal Preston Hospital (RPH).
