Vote for outstanding employees in Bay Health and Care Partners Health Heroes Awards

28 January 2020

Would you like your Health Heroes to be honoured for providing exceptional care?

You can vote for outstanding individuals and teams in the Bay Health and Care Partners (BHCP) Health Heroes Awards 2019/20.

The Health Heroes awards scheme is an opportunity for health and care organisations to recognise the talents and commitment of staff, volunteers, governors and fundraisers.

BHCP includes University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT), Morecambe Bay Clinical Commissioning Group (MBCCG), Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, the GP Providers Alliance, Cumbria County Council, Lancashire County Council, North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Last year’s winners

Nominations are being sought for individuals or teams in each of the following categories:

• Going the Extra Mile Award (winner picked by patients)
• Excellence in Patient Safety Award
• Outstanding Improvement in Patient Experience Award
• Student / Trainee of the Year
• Leader of the Year (winner picked by Aaron Cummins, Chief Executive)
• Innovation and Research Award
• Inclusion and Diversity Award
• Team of the Year (under 10 people)
• Team of the Year (more than 10 people)

The winners of last year’s ‘Going the Extra Mile’ were Care Navigator, Rosie Wilkinson, and Care Coordinator, Vikki O’Donnell, from Barrow Town Integrated Care Community, who were nominated for going above and beyond in their work with voluntary groups in Barrow to equip a flat for a seriously ill man.

The man had been discharged from hospital into a new flat but had no personal possessions. They worked hard with multiple charities in Barrow to provide the man with clothing, furniture, bedding, a fridge and food to make his last days more comfortable. In addition to this, they coordinated NHS services alongside voluntary services to make sure he was supported daily.

Aaron Cummins, Chief Executive of UHMBT, said: “The Health Heroes award scheme is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year for me and we hope that many members of the public will get involved by nominating outstanding people working in the health and care services across Morecambe Bay.

“These awards are a way of recognising members of staff who deserve a special thank you for all they do and who have provided excellent care. We would like to hear from you if you have recently received outstanding care from a member of staff or from a service in your community which has made a difference to your life or that of a friend or family member. Please take the time to nominate them so we can thank them more formally.”

Phil Woodford, Lead for Communications and Engagement for Bay Health and Care Partners, said: “I am delighted that nominations are now open for our eighth annual Health Heroes awards.

“The Health Heroes Awards celebrate the extraordinary work carried out by our colleagues across Morecambe Bay. This is the public’s opportunity to thank someone who has gone above and beyond their role to improve the lives of everyone who uses health and care services.”

Nominations for the Health Heroes Awards close on 6 March 2020.
