Keeping Us Safe awards

Introducing our brand new monthly 'Keeping us Safe Awards'.

Welcome to our brand new monthly UHMBT staff awards scheme which is focused on celebrating colleagues whose skills and actions have gone above and beyond to ensure the safety of each other, our patients and their families. This could be by showing their commitment to sharing learning and preventing recurring errors or recognising colleagues who have worked to improve or change processes leading to safer environments for all.UHMBT Keeping us Safe Logo_Chosen-1.png

Winners will be announced each month through internal communications and invited to that month’s Trust Board meeting so the Board can say a well-deserved thank you.

High quality and safe patient care are the reasons we are all here and we know that there are countless examples of colleagues going out of their way to improve the care our patients receive or the experience of their team.

We really hope everyone will get behind these awards and let us know who goes above and beyond expectations so we can give them the recognition and thanks they deserve. Please check the criteria before submitting your nomination.

For further information about the awards, please read the short FAQs on this page, or contact the Corporate Communications Team on communications.team@mbht.nhs.uk.

We look forward to reading all of your nominations!

The Keeping us Safe award is about recognising those colleagues who have quality and safety of patient care at the heart of everything they do.

Judges will be particularly interested to hear about colleagues who have been actively tackling and improving quality and safety in their area.

Entries are invited from all areas of the Trust. Every single colleague - whether that’s in a clinical area, out in the community, estates and facilities, finance, admin and clerical, medical engineering, education, one of our fantastic students…or the many other roles not listed - plays a vital role in the Trust providing a truly safe and high quality service. There isn’t one role that can do what they do without the support of every other role across the Trust.

Judges will be looking for evidence of how the individual:

  • Has made patient care or colleague experience safer and of a higher quality
  • Has made a lasting or long-term contribution to quality and safety in their area
  • Demonstrates excellence through a caring and compassionate approach to the services they deliver
  • Engages with those around them to ensure that any improvements made are in the best interest of all
  • Sets an example for other health professionals
  • Demonstrates a commitment to sharing learning with other teams or organisations

Entries do not have to meet all of the above but they need to show what the individual has done to improve the quality and safety of the services they deliver – whether that is directly to patients or by supporting clinical teams. Each entry needs to be backed up with clear, supporting evidence for each nomination submitted, that will clearly show why they deserve to be awarded.

How do you nominate for the ‘Keeping us safe’ award?

You can nominate a colleague for the award by filling in our quick and simple online form. Simply state the name of the colleague you think should be recognised for their contribution to ‘keeping us safe’, why you would like to nominate them and a short example of how they have gone above and beyond. The full award criteria should be used when making your nomination.

How will winners be chosen?

Each month, a different Executive Director and Non-Executive Director will review all of the nominations and choose a winner based on how well they meet the award criteria.

How many winners will be chosen each month?

We will be looking to announce one winner per month but if we have more nominations that can’t be ignored, we will award more!

What do winners receive?

Alongside a huge thank you, winners will receive a certificate and small token of our gratitude. We will arrange for the ‘prize’ to be delivered to the winner’s work area at a time suitable to them.

Will I have to be in any publicity if I win?

We would like to share details of all of our winners in the Weekly News, on the intranet, on our social media channels, and on our digital screens across the Trust. This will include name, job title, a photo and details of why they won the award - taken from the nomination form.

Winners will also be invited to the next public Trust Board meeting to receive a personal thank you from our Trust Board. The meetings are currently being held over Microsoft Teams.

How long are nominations open for?

There is no closing date for these awards! There will be a cut-off date to allow judges to review entries before announcing that month’s winner. If you submit an entry after that cut-off date, your nomination will simply go into the nominations for the next month’s award.
