Preparing for your first day

We know that starting a new job can be exciting and also a bit nerve wracking. Remember that you’ll be made very welcome in whichever of the UHMB teams you’ll be joining.

The first day of work for most new starters will be a face to face Corporate (or Trust) Induction which you will have booked through Trac and the Recruitment Team during the joining process.Pre-onboarding image of physiotherapy team

At Corporate Induction you will get to hear more about our Vision and Values from our Chief Executive Aaron Cummins, exploring what it means to work here and what support you can expect to find.

There are so many different roles in the Trust that it would be impossible to cover everything that you might need to know for your first day here. However, we do know that you’ll have a lot of questions which this site will hopefully help with at least a few of them or help you find where to go to get further information. The most popular ones can be found in our FAQ’s section.

This site is a valuable resource with a lot of information all designed to help transition you into your new role. We’d strongly recommended reading through the sections before your first day if you can and definitely in your first few weeks.

  • Bring a packed lunch – there are canteens at each of our three main hospital sites but you might not get chance to find them on day one
  • Make an NHS Acronyms notebook
  • Note your managers name, contact details and where you're meeting them
  • Bring a pen and some paper for useful notes
  • Factor in extra travel time just in case
  • Comfortable shoes – you may get taken on a tour round your department or hospital
  • Bring any questions you want to ask – we'll be happy to answer them for you or signpost you where to get the answers.

Finally, good luck in you new job from everyone at UHMBT!
