Screening and Appointments

Screening appointments

If you are between 50 and 70 years old you will receive an appointment once every three years, inviting you to have a breast screening mammogram. We invite around 42,000 women per year for screening in North Lancashire and South Cumbria. You do not have to contact us to make an appointment, we will ensure that you receive your invitation at the appropriate time. If you do not automatically receive an invitation and you are between these ages please contact the unit to make an appointment.

Age extension has commenced in the North Lancashire and South Cumbria area. This means that we have begun to invite random sample's of women from 47-49 years of age and 71-73 years of age in addition to women aged 50-70. Age extension will happen over a period of time and will eventually mean that all women receive their first invitation before their 50th birthday. Please see our leaflet in the publications section or visit the NHS Cancer Screening website for more details.

We have a range of different locations where you can be screened and a range of appointment dates and times. We will aim to invite you to the nearest location to your GP practice however this is not always possible.

When you receive your invitation letter you will see that we have already allocated you a specific screening location, appointment date and time. If you find this appointment inconvenient then please complete the appointment request form to request an alternative location, date or time.

Request an appointment (over 70s)

If you are over 70 and have not been screened for over 3 years you are also welcome to contact our office on 01524 518699.

How to find us

How women are invited for breast screening

The North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service invites approximately 42,000 women per year for screening. Screening is organised according to your GP practice in all boroughs (CCGs). Once every three years your GP practice will be contacted and all women eligible for screening will be invited. All eligible women registered with a GP practice will receive their first breast screening invitation before their 53rd birthday.

Women over the age of 70 are encouraged to continue with breast screening but must contact the screening office once every three years for an appointment.
